ENROLLMENT SURVEY for 2024-2025

Thank you to the parents who responded to our survey asking parents to confirm their enrollment for the next school year 2024-2025.  Let us know If you are moving and your child will not attend Mayland Heights in the fall or if you have a special request for your child. While we cannot guarantee your requests will be possible due to classroom complexities and academic needs of all students we will take your requests into consideration. The survey has now closed however you can have not done so and still wish to share your thoughts, please email Mrs. Korpela directly ickorpela@cbe.ab.ca

MH FAMILY FUN RUN JUNE 7 at 12PM

Get your runners on and join us for our school’s Fun Run & Walk on Friday, June 7 at school at 12:00pm! We are going to be running inside the school grounds on this day and participating as a school community.  Any parents who wish to join us are welcome to do so.  There will be prizes for Div1 and Div 2 runners.  Div 1 (grade K- 2) will be running from 12PM to 12:30PM and Div 2 (grade 3 -6) will be running from 12:30PM to 1PM.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP SPIRIT DAY

On Thursday, May 30th we will be TWIN DAY!  Dress like your friend and be a twin for the day!

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

Our Kindergarten Orientation will take place Thursday May 30th at 6PM.  There will be a short presentation in the gym for parents and future students (15 minutes).  Our School Council Parent group will be here to answer questions as well as Briar Hill, a private operator for before and after school care offered at Mayland.

Following the presentation, future Kindergarten students will be able to rotate through a few centres around the school to discover skills they will learn in kindergarten.  We are excited to meet our new students!

DELF Update for Grade 5

We have received notification that our Official Results from the DELF will be shared shortly. We understand that students and their families are anxiously waiting. Thank you for your patience.

STUDENT PICK-UP AT THE END OF THE DAY

We are asking parents to please wait at the bottom of the stairs when picking up their child at the end of the day.  Teachers for Kindergarten and Grade 1 will bring their students outside to meet their parents and we need to clear the doors for everyone.  Thank you for understanding.

We also ask that any parents who arrive after 3:15PM to wait outside to pick up their child at 3:30PM.  It is very difficult to call classrooms during the last 15 minutes of the day, we are receiving too many requests to page classrooms at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

TRANSPORTATION AND BUSSING IMPORTANT

We are asking parents to review expectations with their children at home regarding appropriate behaviour on the bus ride to and from school.

Students riding the buses are responsible to the bus driver and the school staff for their behaviour. We have the same expectations for students on the buses as we do for any student in or around the school. In addition, it is expected that students will:

  • Remain seated at all times, not extend arms or heads out of the bus
  • Sit according to the driver’s seating plan, obey the drivers directions at all times, the driver is in charge of the bus
  • Not make excessive noise so as to interfere with the driver
  • Be respectful of other citizens and drivers while on the bus
  • Not consume food or drink on the bus and not throw waste or other objects in or out of the bus
  • Be respectful of Southland Transportation property while on the bus

Bus drivers report student misconduct to the school staff. Any violation of bussing policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action and may include suspension from the buses and/or suspension from school. Students found responsible for any damage or vandalism will be required to pay for repair costs or cleaning.  Complete bus rules and expectations can be found on our website

Parents MUST be ON TIME at the bus stops.  Bus Drivers are also not able to wait for parents to arrive at the bus stop in the afternoon.  If they wait for parents to pick up their children past the scheduled time, then they are late for all the following stops. We ask all parents for their attention to this matter and consideration for all students and parents.

PARKING ZONES

Please note that the parking lot is designated for staff use only. We kindly ask for your cooperation in dropping off your children on Maunsell Drive instead of the parking lot in the morning.

Additionally, an extra bus has been added to accommodate students at Mayland Heights. It's essential to provide sufficient space for buses to drop off students safely. Remember, buses have priority and the right of way. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

FIELD TRIPS AND VOLUNTEER CHECKS

Many field trips are happening in the next few months and we encourage parents to volunteer with their child’s class if possible.  Please make sure you have been cleared as a volunteer.  The process can be completed online through your MyCBE Account.  If you have any questions, please contact the office 403-777-6290.
