Sign-In and Sign-Out is Mandatory
To ensure the safety of our staff and students, we have implemented some new security procedures at Mayland Heights School. We have identification tags available in the office for guests, volunteers and guest teachers. Our policy is for all adults to sign-in and out at the office and wear an identification tag while in the school.
Please do not proceed to your children’s classrooms to pick them up. Our office staff will call them to the office when you sign them out. We appreciate your cooperation in checking in at the office and waiting for your children in the foyer.
School Access
All school doors will be locked for our students except during lunch hour. Students have been informed that if they come to school late, they should use the front door and ring the front door buzzer to get in and check in at our office. All guests (visitors and volunteers) must ring the front door bell to be let in and then report to the office.
Notes About Dismissal
Please make sure that you meet your kindergarten children at their bus stop at the correct time, and ensure that your Grade 1-6 children are tended to when they arrive home early on Fridays.
- If you are sending someone different to pick up your child at lunch or dismissal time, please inform the office or classroom teacher via the agenda book.
- If you or someone else is picking up your child for an appointment, please identify yourself at the office and sign your child out for the appointment.
- We need to be particularly watchful of our youngest students until they adjust to new routines.
- See our bell times and to assist you with making doctor and dental appointments.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
