General Health Measures
In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.
Routine Immunizations
The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.
It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-6290 ext. 1.
Illness
If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in all school activities. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact you and you will be expected to arrange for your child to be picked up as soon as possible.
Medical Release Forms
School personnel are not allowed to dispense any medication to a student without a completed medication release form in place. This includes common pain medication such as Tylenol. If your child requires medication at school, please access this form from the office. If your child has ongoing medical concerns it is very important that the school be made aware so that we are prepared to assist your child in the case of an emergency. (Forms are also available on the CBE website.)
All medication should be stored in its original container, be properly labeled and kept in our school office, unless there are special circumstances that we are made aware of, e.g. inhalers and epipens.
Forms
Allergies
We are committed to providing a safe environment that is inclusive for all children. There are a number of students who have a potentially life threatening allergy to peanut and tree nuts. Parents of children with allergies must fill out the appropriate forms (also available in the office) and ensure the school has the necessary medication on-hand should a reaction occur. We ask that parents who are sending in classroom treats, please avoid the noted products. Staff is trained annually in the administration of an Epi-pen.
Injuries at School
Should your child be injured at school the following procedures will be followed:
- A school staff member will take action to ensure the safety of the student and administer minor first aid.
- The parent or guardian will be telephoned and appraised of the situation and asked, if necessary, to come to school, and advise us of their wishes regarding their child’s injury.
- If we are unable to contact the parent/guardian or emergency contact person, an administrator will decide if emergency treatment is necessary.
- If emergency treatment appears to be necessary, the child will be transported to a Hospital, at the parents’ / guardians’ expense. Parents/guardians will be contacted as soon as possible.
Lice
There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.
If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.
As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
