Purpose
The Purpose of all our activities at Mayland Heights School is to provide children with quality learning experiences designed to help them become self-reliant, responsible, caring and contributing members of society.
This purpose can only be accomplished with the cooperation and ongoing support of parents and the community as partners in the educational process.
Our School's Statement of Beliefs
At Mayland Heights School, we believe that:
1. Children are naturally curious and have an intense desire to learn. Learning continues throughout their lifetime.
2. Everyone in the learning community has a right to safe, caring and collaborative learning environments.
3. Children need to have a sense of ownership for their learning and need opportunities to direct that learning.
4. Children have a right to learning activities suited to their unique needs.
5. Literacy is about learning to read the world. Therefore:
- all learning is interconnected
- learning is multi-modal – learning in one modality reinforces learning in other modalities
- self-expression is not limited to print-based language
- students learn best when their first and dominant mode of self-expression (language) is highly developed
6. Everyone in the learning community learns from each other and needs opportunities to share their expertise with each other.
Our School's Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a Truth and Reconciliation Commitment to Action, on June 21, we renewed our commitment.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report
Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
