Transportation and Bus conduct
We are asking parents to review expectations with their children at home regarding appropriate behaviour on the bus ride to and from school.
Students riding the buses are responsible to the bus driver and the school staff for their behaviour. We have the same expectations for students on the buses as we do for any student in or around the school. In addition, it is expected that students will:
- Remain seated at all times, not extend arms or heads out of the bus
- Sit according to the driver’s seating plan, obey the drivers directions at all times, the driver is in charge of the bus
- Not make excessive noise so as to interfere with the driver
- Be respectful of other citizens and drivers while on the bus
- Not consume food or drink on the bus and not throw waste or other objects in or out of the bus
- Be respectful of Southland Transportation property while on the bus
Bus drivers report student misconduct to the school staff. Any violation of bussing policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action and may include suspension from the buses and/or suspension from school. Students found responsible for any damage or vandalism will be required to pay for repair costs or cleaning. Complete bus rules and expectations can be found on our website
Mayland Heights Presentation at CBE Trustee Board Meeting
A joint presentation with Mayland Heights, Bob Edwards and Western Canada Schools students who had made their French Immersion journey within all three schools was shared last Wednesday with the CBE Board of Trustees meeting at the Education Centre downtown. Our students were great ambassadors for Mayland Heights and spoke very eloquently about their education journey.
The students shared their experiences in the French Immersion and English program at our respective schools to demonstrate resilience, perseverance through challenges, and adapt to change. As one of the students said, "these are life skills!". It's evident our students are learning to self-evaluate and continuously seek improvement, which speaks volumes about the supportive environment our CBE schools provide.
Thank you to our staff for nurturing an environment where our students can thrive and excel.

Support Staff Appreciation Week
We want to say a big thank you to all our amazing staff here at Mayland Heights School.
This week we celebrated our Support Staff in the CBE. See video link here
Our team is incredibly devoted to our students, their success and takes tremendous energy to build positive relationships with them and their families.
Whether they're listening to someone who needs to talk, giving a hand with a friendly face, or helping out when things get tough, our support staff show what it means to care and work hard for our school community. They make sure every kid feels safe, respected, and ready to learn. They even build legos, colour and dance with them! Let's keep cheering on and supporting our amazing support staff, because they play a huge role in helping our students.
