Food Can Drive at Mayland Heights School

We are thrilled to announce Mayland Heights School is once again participating in the "Can Drive" initiative, dedicated to supporting our local Calgary Food Bank and Veterans Food Bank of Calgary. We are collecting non-perishable food items to assist those in need within our community.  Your involvement is greatly appreciated. We invite you if you are able to donate items such as canned vegetables, fruits, pasta, rice, and other shelf-stable foods. This initiative offers a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about the significance of giving back and helping others.  Please send your donations to school from November 25th to December 18th, 2024. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of families who depend on the food banks.


Cold Weather Policy 

We recognize the value of outdoor breaks such as recess and lunch during the school day, however, when the temperatures reach -20 Celsius or colder including the wind-chill factor, students will not be going outside.    Please dress your children with all their winter clothing for recess and lunch.  Students will be going outside in the winter. We recommend that students wear a few layers in order to stay warm.


Traffic Concerns at Mayland Heights (Improved Flow-Thank you)

Thank you to the many parents who are trying to help a smoother flow to the traffic on Maunsell Drive during drop off and pick up times. Our buses need space to drive to the school when they turn on Maunsell Drive from MacKinnon Drive.  We ask that parents please park on McKinnon Drive and walk to the school to pick up their children.  

Please consider driving in the same direction as the school buses to help circulation and safety for everyone.   Please DO NOT make U-Turns in the middle of the road or drop off children in the middle of the road.  This is very dangerous for everyone.  

We understand that everyone is in a hurry to get to work or to get home at the end of the day, however we would be very sad should someone be injured. Thank you for your cooperation. We have also engaged the City of Calgary and Traffic Bylaw in examining the situation more closely.
