Drop off and Pick Up Student Safety
Pick up and drop off times can get quite busy. Give yourself extra time to navigate safely around schools, whether you are walking, wheeling, or driving. For those who drive, help alleviate congestion by parking a block or two away and walking in, wherever possible. We have 4 large buses that need to reach the bus loading zone. We ask parents to not block the roadway. Do not make u-turns in the middle of the road or drop off your children in the middle of the street. A suggestion for parents is to aim to arrive at school at 8:45AM instead of 9AM.
Talk to your kids about safe travel practices like using crosswalks with patrols, looking all ways before crossing the street and not jaywalking across the roadways as a shortcut.

Parking Lot
Our parking lots are for staff only. CBE policy prohibits the loading or unloading of children in parking lots due to safety concerns. Please do not enter the parking lot to drop off or pick up your child. Also, staff who work part-time need to find their assigned places vacant when they arrive at school. Thank you for your consideration. Briar Hill drop off and pick up apply as well.
Attendance and Late Arrivals
We are noticing increased numbers of students arriving to school late and missing out on instructional time. The start bell is 9AM for classes to be in session. Students arriving after the bell must signin at the office and receive a late slip. We have noticed that students are feeling anxious and rushed when they arrive late for the day as they already feel like they must catch up to their classmates and pick up after lessons have started. We encourage parents to aim for 8:45AM arrival in order to provide their children enough time to get ready for their day once they get to the classroom and feel successful. Supervision starts at 8:45AM and the teachers provide a routine for students during the soft entry time between 8:45AM and 9AM. We will be monitoring late arrivals for families.
Board Games or Puzzle Donations
We are inviting families who may have some puzzles or board games at home that they are no longer using to consider donating them to our classrooms. We are looking for games that have all the pieces necessary to play, are in good condition and appropriate for elementary aged children. These board games and puzzles can be brought in and delivered at the office. Our students will appreciate using these during our rainy or colder lunch recesses. Thank you for the donations we have already received.
Used Book Fair at Mayland Heights -Nov 28- 29
This year we will be hosting a Used Book Fair during Parent Teacher Interviews in November. We are looking to collect any used books in good condition to add to the sale. Books will be very reasonably priced so that all students can purchase a book to add to their home library. We are hoping to have books for all ages in our used sale, including cook books or comic books. Please send in your gently used book donations to the office until November 22. All proceeds of the sale will go to support the Outdoor Learning Space to be built in the spring of 2025.

Parents and Visitors in the School
All parents and visitors are required to report to the office. Parents are not permitted to travel in the school hallways without being accompanied by a staff member. We ask all parents to say their goodbyes at the front door in the morning and allow their children to build independence by entering the building on their own and carrying their personal items themselves (backpacks, lunch box and shoes). This is to ensure safety for all students and staff at Mayland Heights. We thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding.
Remembrance Day Assembly
You are invited to join us for our Remembrance Day assembly on November 6th 2024 at 10:45 AM. Mme Stunell and Mme Parkhurst's class will be presenting, however we would love to see all our parents there to honor this special occasion. We also encourage any cadets, Girl Guides, or Boy Scouts to wear their uniforms to honour our veterans. Let’s come together to remember and reflect as a community. We look forward to seeing you.
