Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
A reminder to parents that we have designated bus zones in front of the school and we need to have these clear for our buses. We have a specific Drop off zone for 1 minute maximum for parents. The staff parking lot is reserved for our employees, no parent drop off or parking please. We thank you for your understanding and support.
School Rules and Expectations (PPT in Resources Section)
Last Friday, all students participated in a school wide assembly and expectations were made about school rules and expected behaviours. We have attached the presentation in the resource section on the right so that families can review these expectations at home in order to have a successful school year.
School Bus Status
Parents/guardians can view the bus status online (lates, change in drivers, etc). Download the app and stay connected. Visit CBE Transportation for forms and more information.
- Southland: MyBusStop App
- MAYLAND HEIGHTS CODE # CBEQ014BZE
School Bus Safety Rules
A reminder to all students who ride the bus to follow the expectations around acceptable student behaviour and expectations. Drivers and school administration have reviewed these expectations with all bus students.
New Electronic Use Policy - Away for the Day
Mayland Heights School supports students with our new electronic use policy by asking students to put their devices (cell phones and smart watches) “away for the day”. Research shows that children do better with phones away during school hours. When supported with putting their phones away, students are more engaged socially and academically and students are supported in developing a sense of community.
**As this policy is new students will have reminders to adjust to this policy. If you need to contact your child during instructional time, please call the office and we will connect with your child.
School Council and Parent Society Meeting
The first meeting of the 2023-2024 school year will be on Wednesday, September 27th at 6:30PM. This meeting will be in person at the Mayland Heights School Library. Parents are invited to come out and learn about the various ways they can get involved in the school council this year and meet other parents. There will also be a Teams Link for parents who would like to join remotely. We hope to see you there.
Meet The Teacher Evening
We invite all families to join us on Thursday, September 21st, from 5:30PM to 7 PM in order to have an opportunity to meet their child (ren) teacher and visit our school. Teachers will be presenting their classroom expectations, curriculum links and learning approaches. There will be 2 presentations, one at 5:30PM and another at 6:30PM in order to allow all families to be able to visit multiple classrooms and teachers.
**For Mme Ashleigh and Mme Christina grade 2 French Immersion classes only: Teachers will be available on Wednesday, September 20th at 5pm and 6pm.
All our teachers are still getting to know your child and will not be able to have one-on-one conferences at this time but rather provide families with a general overview of the learning for this year. If you have specific concerns or information to share with the teachers, please contact them through their emails to set up a time to meet. Click Here for a staff list.
Reporting Absences and Student Illness
It is important that you call the school if your child is absent or arriving late. Please report all absences to the Attendance Line at 403-777-6290 ext. 1.
If your child is ill, please keep them at home until they are well enough to participate in all school activities. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we will contact you and you will be expected to arrange for your child to be picked up as soon as possible.
Lunch Supervision Registration
A reminder to all parents to login to their CBE account and register their child (ren) for lunch supervision. More information can be found on our school website here
