Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders

A reminder to parents that we have designated bus zones in front of the school and we need to have these clear for our buses.  We have a specific Drop off zone for 1 minute maximum for parents.  The staff parking lot is reserved for our employees, no parent drop off or parking please. We thank you for your understanding and support.

Early Dismissal Times on Fridays

A reminder that every Friday is early dismissal.  Please refer to the times below and ensure you have made pick up arrangements for your child.

Kindergarten 

Morning AM Group - 9AM to 11AM

Afternoon PM Group - 11:20AM - 1:20PM

Grades 1 to 6 - 9AM to 1:20PM

School Bus Safety Rules

A reminder to all students who ride the bus to follow the expectations around acceptable student behaviour and expectations.  Drivers and school administration have reviewed these expectations with all bus students.  

New Electronic Use Policy - Away for the Day

Mayland Heights School supports students with our new electronic use policy by asking students to put their devices (cell phones and smart watches) “away for the day”. Research shows that children do better with phones away during school hours. When supported with putting their phones away, students are more engaged socially and academically and students are supported in developing a sense of community.

**As this policy is new students will have reminders to adjust to this policy.  If you need to contact your child during instructional time, please contact the office and we will contact your child.

Terry Fox Run

We are excited to announce that our school will be proudly taking part in the 2023 Terry Fox School Run scheduled to take place during Friday September 15th. Students will be participating in the Terry Fox Run during school hours at 12:00pm. We invite parents and friends to come and join us for this event. The run will kick off with an assembly and video September 15th at 11:30am. 

Our school is proud to play an important role in keeping the legacy of Terry Fox going. Students will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the heroic efforts of Terry over the next few weeks as well as raise much-needed funds for cancer research. Through our participation in the Terry Fox Run, we hope to encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school community.

The Terry Fox Foundation has created an online fundraising page for our school as well as provide student/classroom “Terry” activities. Here are some of the ways you can support your child for this year’s Terry Fox event:  https://terryfoxschoolrun.org/

Meet The Teacher Evening

We invite all families to join us on Thursday, September 21st, from 5:30PM to 7 PM in order to have an opportunity to meet their child's teacher and visit our school.  Teachers will be presenting their classroom expectations, curriculum links and learning approaches.  There will be 2 presentations, one at 5:30PM and another at 6:30PM in order to allow all families to be able to visit multiple classrooms and teachers.

Teachers are still getting to know your child and will not be able to have one-on-one conferences at this time but rather provide families with a general overview of the learning for this year.
