Field Trip Volunteers Needed

We have several field trips planned for the last 2 months of our school year and in order to participate we need parent volunteers.  Please consider volunteering for a field trip if you can.  Without parent volunteers, our field trips cannot take place.  If you are interested in volunteering for other classes than your own children, please let us know and we will reach out with opportunities to support other classes at Mayland Heights School.

Upcoming field trips that require volunteers:

  • May 14th - Butterfield Acres with Kindergarten (English and French) - 9:15am - 2pm
  • May 21st - Butterfield Acres with Kindergarten (English and French) -9:15am - 2pm
  • May 21st - Grade 1-2 English: Granary Road 9:15am - 1:45pm

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these field trips and you have your security clearance please email Mrs. Korpela, ickorpela@cbe.ab.ca and we will connect you with the teachers organizing the trips.

If you are interested in volunteering but do not have your security clearance, please apply through your CBE Account and follow the steps under volunteering.  If you are not a parent of the CBE but wish to volunteer please contact our office at 403-777-6290.

Jays Care Baseball Program for grade 5 students

This spring Mayland Heights School will be an Affiliate School in partnership with Jays Care Foundation and the Toronto Blue Jays. Jays Care Foundation builds sport for development programs that uses sport as a tool to develop core life skills such as: connection; belonging; leadership; courage; and independence. The program is offered at no cost to students in grade 5 who are able to commit to lunch time practices, drills and games for 8 weeks.  The MH Blue Jays Group will be every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch for grade 5 students.  Coached by Mme Korpela and Ms. Astle.  Interested students were provided permission forms today to take home and get parent consent.  We have 20 spots available for players.  First session starts April 29th.

My 1st Ride 2025 Registration

Helping Students Feel Confident Riding the Bus:

The Calgary Board of Education, along with our partners, are pleased to offer a school bus orientation program called My 1st Ride. This program is designed to familiarize students with the experience of taking the yellow bus to and from school on a regular basis.

The orientation is aimed at first-time riders, students with special transportation needs and older students who are using transportation for the first time. Each group is offered an orientation session to meet their diverse needs.

The orientation consists of a 20-minute presentation followed by a short ride on a school bus. Each new rider will be given a certificate of completion.

Participants must register in advance. Spots are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis.  When registering for My 1st Ride orientation, please select one ticket per student attending, parents and siblings do not require a ticket.

The sessions run every half hour between 9 am - 3 pm. Each session will take approximately 1 hour. There is no cost for this event.  Please use the registration links below to sign up.

Outdoor Indigenous Learning Space UPDATE

A huge thank you to Ms. McKnight and our student leaders from our classrooms who worked so hard on designing ideas for our Outdoor Indigenous Learning Space.  Thanks to their hard work, as well as the diligent efforts from our School Council, Mayland Heights has been able to secure the grant to work with a landscape architect to design the project.  We have been in contact with an Elder to help us incorporate the Indigenous perspective to our learning space. We also have recently received a $22,000 grant from the TD Friends of the Environment to help us create our space.  Students are excited to have a new space in the near future to learn on the land, from the land and about the land.  Congrats Mayland Heights Huskies! A big thank you to the School Council Parent group as well.

NEW Bell Times for 2025-2026 School Year

All CBE Families received email communication from our Superintendent, Mrs. Joanne Pitman regarding new bell times for several CBE Schools for the 2025-2026 School Year in response to School Transportation Amendment Regulation for student transportation that comes into effect on Sept. 1, 2025. It is the provincial government's intent to increase the number of students who can access transportation by changing the transportation eligibility distance and how the distance is measured.

New Bell Times for Mayland Heights School:

  • Morning start: 9:15AM (Monday to Friday)
  • Afternoon Dismissal: Monday to Thursday at 3:50PM & Fridays at 1:10PM

We recognize that change brings challenges and we are committed to providing as much notice as possible to families in perspiration for the next school year.
